Morel's Inn on False River began in 1926 when the first hotel in New Roads, Louisiana was built. The original building is no longer standing but the tradition remains. We believe that apart from our cooking, our hospitality comes second to none and because of this we guarantee you a pleasant night’s stay and a comfortable place to call home for a week or a month.

You deserve a good night’s rest. We provide you with all the comforts of home, including quilts, comfortable pillows, a coffee maker and color TV. The best part about our establishment is the lovely courtyard gardens just outside your door, but we are partial to flowers and greens.

Our town, New Roads, Louisiana has a host of offerings including a very charming downtown area with plenty of shops and antiques galore, including historic sites and wonderful architecture to make your mouth water. In our historic district you will also find some ancient oak trees and vintage turn-of-the-century plantation homes, just old enough to remind you of your grandmother and her mother. And one of the things that we are ever so proud of is the cooking in our community. There are many restaurants but ours is our favorite.

Make sure you eat at our Restaurant just behind the Inn, where you can find many local delicacies and excellent fare. We also have a cocktail bar for drinks and appetizers.

The restaurant offers spectacular views of the river and water skylines, as well as the morning sunrises and evening sunsets. You are welcome to join us for cocktails in the afternoon as the sun sets or just before dinner.

Traveling From Baton Rouge, LA
On LA Hwy 190:

Follow LA Hwy 190 through Erwinville, LA. Travel 1.8 miles and exit LA 1. There is a slight veer to the left, instead of an actual exit. This is when you reach False River. Drive 14 miles to downtown New Roads, Louisiana.
Morel's Inn On False River is on the right just across the street from St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Parking is either on Main St. or in Morrison Parkway behind the INN. Morrison Parkway is on the right just before you reach the Inn, and across from St. Mary's Catholic Church. From St. Francisville, LA Via Ferry:

Turn right after disembarking the ferry. Go 5.2 miles along the levee, following the signs to New Roads. This is LA Hwy 10 to New Roads. Turn right on Main Street at the Main St. intersection. Travel 1 block.

From Simmesport, LA Or Marksville, LA:

Follow LA-1 going South, approximately 50 miles to New Roads. Turn right on Hospital Road. Turn left on LA Hwy 1 (Main Street). Travel approx. 2 miles to downtown New Roads.

Turn left at Livonia, LA on LA Hwy 78. Travel Northeast2.7 miles on LA-78 toward Bridge Rd. Turn left after the bridge. Remain on LA-78 for 4.5 miles to New Roads, LA. Follow this road until it ends at False River. Turn left on False River Drive/LA 1, and travel approximately 6 miles to downtown New Roads.

Though Morel's Restaurant & Antiques is no longer in the original building, Morel's Restaurant has been serving fine food since before your grandmother was born. It all started when several brothers began baking bread and pies at the turn of the century, long before you can remember. The restaurant opened originally in 1926, and still exists today, but in a new building that is built out over our great lake, called False River. »
